How to Make a Wreath Using Vine & Stock Flowers

A wreath that contains fresh vines and dried stock flowers can adorn a door with beautiful and distinctive style. Grapevines, honeysuckle or Virginia creeper can produce suitable vines long enough to intertwine into a beautiful wreath base. After creating the vine base, add flowers to fill in the wreath. Instructions

    • 1

Prune the vines with the pruning shears to remove most of the leaves and small stems. Leave one or two leaves and some curly tendrils on the vines to add interest to the wreath.

    • 2

Grasp a vine by the thickest end and shape it into a circle about 1 to 2 inches smaller in diameter than the finished size you desire. Coil the vine around in the circle shape three times, holding the loops of vine securely together.

    • 3

Weave the vine in and out of the circles to add more thickness to the wreath. When you reach the end of a vine, tuck it into the center. Insert the thickest end of a new vine into the center of the vine circles in a different spot and begin weaving it in and out.

    • 4

Continue adding vines until the wreath is as thick as you desire. Tuck the end of the last vine in to finish weaving.

    • 5

Cut a 12 inch of floral wire and wrap it around the vines to secure them together tightly. Repeat this with one or two more lengths of floral wire to secure the vines all the way around the wreath.

    • 6

Create bundles of the three or four different dried flowers, combining the flowers to make colorful bunches.

    • 7

Place a bundle of flowers against the vines in an attractive position. Secure the bundle to the vines by wrapping a length of floral wire around the stems two or three times tightly. Leave the wire attached to use it to wrap around each bundle.

    • 8

Add as many bundles of flowers as you desire to fill in the vines. Allow space between the bundles or add enough to fill in the entire wreath with continuous flowers. Continue wrapping the wire around the wreath tightly each time you add another bundle of flowers.

    • 9

Cut off the end of the floral wire and twist it around itself to finish the wreath securely.
