How to Decorate Rounded Bottom Shelves

Using curved or rounded lines is an effective way to draw attention to rounded bottom shelves. Since the shelves are on the lower section of a decorative shelving unit, they often go unnoticed. The decor must direct the eye to the space to make the most of this attractive feature. Finding the right accessories for the shelves requires patience, but it is worthwhile once you see the overall effect.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay oval or round lace doilies on the bottom shelves. Choose ones in a white, beige or pale color. The light color draws the eye to the bottom shelves and the shape helps accentuate the curve of the shelves.

    • 2

Pick decor that has scalloped, round or oval edges to set on the bottom shelves. An oval bowl made of porcelain or pottery is perfect for these shelves. A decorative platter is another option.

    • 3

Set a mirror tile on one of the bottom rounded shelves. The darkness created by the upper shelves sometimes makes it impossible to view the decor on the lower shelves. The mirror catches the light and magnifies the effect of the decor you set on top of it.

    • 4

Pick decor that is short enough to be seen fully from around the room. For instance, if you have a figurine that almost touches the upper shelf, the top portion may not show up depending on the placement of seating in the room.

    • 5

Display collectibles along the round edges of the bottom shelves. For instance, if you collect miniature villages line up the pieces so they follow the curve of the shelf. Keep them all approximately 1 or 2 inches from the edge to be able to view the display easily.
