Decide what size hook you want to make and make a note of this measurement. Keep in mind what you want to use the hook for and make sure the selected size would be appropriate for this usage.
Use wire cutters to cut off two wire pieces from the wire roll. The two pieces should be approximately two inches longer than the length chosen for the finished hook.
Compare the two pieces. Check for differences in length.
If needed, trim the two wire pieces so that they are the same.
Repeat these steps as desired for multiple hooks.
Hold the two wire pieces so that they are both parallel and level with each other.
Check that your grip on the wires is tight and will not loosen when you begin to twist the wires. Place your elbow on a flat surface if needed to steady your arm.
With your other hand, grab the two wire pieces with the pliers.
Twist the wires so they wrap tightly around each other.
Trim the two pieces so they are once again the same length, if needed.
Sketch out the shape of the hook you want to make.
For a simple hook shape, bend up one end of the twisted wires either by hand or with the pliers, if needed.
For an S-hook, bend both ends of the twisted wires, one at a time, to create the shape of the letter "S."
For an L-shaped hook, bend up one end of the twisted wires in the same way as you would for a simple hook shape. Use a flat surface to straighten the bent end into a right angle.
Adjust as needed to get the ideal shape for the selected hook style.
You can dip your hook in paint to match your walls or décor, if desired. Allow the hook to dry completely before using.
Finials, coins, decorative pins or any other small item can be attached to the front of the bent portion of the hook for a more detailed look. Add the decorative item to your hook using a hot glue gun and ensure the glue is dry before using.
To make a stronger hook, you can wrap additional wires around the completed hook.
Wrap fabric around your hook and adhere with a hot glue gun if you want to soften the look and feel of the hook.
You can link multiple S-hooks together, if desired, to make a chain of hooks.
