Remove the headboard from the bed and lay it down flat. This enables you to paint the words more efficiently.
Pick a stencil that contains the quotation you desire or use alphabet stencils in the font you prefer.
Prepare the headboard for the paint by taping the stencil onto the location you want the words. Attach the stencil with masking or painters tape. These have weak adhesives that prevent them from damaging the wood surface.
Sand the empty spaces in the stencil with a folded piece of fine grit sandpaper. This enables the paint to adhere better to the surface. When painting large letters or a quotation with many words, sand the entire wood surface on the front of the headboard. Varnish the entire front after the letters dry completely. If the wood does not have a glossy varnish or paint on it, simply dusting the wood is enough to prepare the surface.
Go over the stencil thoroughly with a feather duster or soft cloth to get rid of any sanding dust.
Paint in each letter in the words with a foam craft brush or a stencil brush. Use acrylic paints in colors that complement your bedroom decor.
Wait for the painted words to dry and then remove the tape and stencils.
