How to Clean a Rusted Aluminum Bottle Holder

If you have an aluminum bottle holder on your bicycle that has rusted, don't detach the holder and throw it away quite yet. Aluminum is prone to rusting, so you'll need to clean it sometimes. You can clean a rusted aluminum bottle holder with a few simple ingredients you may already have in your kitchen.

Things You'll Need

  • Lemon
  • Butcher knife
  • Cutting board
  • Rock salt
  • Large onion
  • Clean, damp cloth

      Cut a lemon and a large onion in half.

      Sprinkle rock salt directly on the surface of one of the lemon halves.

      Scrub the surface of the rusted aluminum bottle holder with the lemon. The lemon and salt combination acts as a cleaning agent.

      Rub one of the onion halves against rusted surfaces of the aluminum bottle holder. This helps loosen the rust on the holder.

      Wipe off the holder with a clean, damp cloth.
