How to Hang a Window Scarf Over an Open Archway

You can make an interior arch between two rooms into an attractive focal point. Drape a window scarf over the archway to add color and texture to the area. Placed there purely for decoration and not for function, the window scarf will add an elegant accent to the space.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

Mark the points on the sides and center of the arch where you will install the three scarf hooks. Place the end of a tape measure at the bottom of the left side of the arch and draw the tape up to the point where the edge of the arch begins to curve. Mark an “X” on the wall at this point with the pencil. Measure the same distance up from the floor on the right side of the arch and place an “X” at the point where the arch starts to curve. Find the center of the arch along the top edge and place an “X” at this point on the wall.

Determine the length of window scarf you will need. Start at the left bottom edge of the arch and extend the tape measure straight up to the point where you marked an “X.” Hold the tape measure against the wall at that point with your left hand. With your right hand, extend the tape measure loosely up to the top center point of the arch marked with an “X.” Allow the tape measure to fall in a downward curve and then swoop up to the center point to simulate the swag you will create with the window scarf. Note the measurement of the tape at the center point and double it. You will need a window scarf of this length to drape over the arch.

Drill pilot holes at the three “Xs” to mount the scarf hooks. Mount the scarf hooks using the hardware included, screwing them into the wall securely with the screwdriver.

Grasp the window scarf at its midpoint and set it over the top scarf hook. Arrange the scarf to curve downward in a swag on the left side of the arch and bring the material up over the left hook. Repeat for the right side. Rearrange the scarf on the left and right hooks as necessary to ensure the length of the scarf is even on both sides of the arch.
