Wrap the rope parts of the hammock connected to the wooden hardware with painter's tape. This protects the porous rope surface from stray paint.
Shake a tube of patio paint made for wood surfaces, which you can purchase in the outdoor paint section of your local craft store.
Squeeze a dollop of paint onto a paper plate. Dip a sponge brush into the paint.
Paint the wooden hardware at the top and bottom of the hammock. If your hammock is on a wooden stand, paint the stand as well. To do this, move the sponge brush down the length of the wood surface, making sure to use long, flowing strokes in the direction of the wood grain.
Allow the paint to dry before applying a second coat.
Pry open a small can of polyurethane with a screwdriver. Mix the polyurethane with a paint stick and dip a sponge brush into the polyurethane. Apply the polyurethane coat onto the wooden hardware surfaces. Allow the polyurethane to dry. This will provide an extra coat to the hardware to protect it from weather such as rain and ice.
