How to Hang Curtains on a Concrete Block Wall

Installing curtains and rods on a concrete wall is not dissimilar to installing them on drywall or wood. The major difference is that you won't be able to use the screws included with your curtain rod set when you're ready to install the curtains. These screws are typically meant for softer surfaces, such as drywall or wood. If you have concrete walls, this does not preclude you from buying standard curtain rod sets -- you'll just need to replace the screws with ones meant for concrete.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the window. This will tell you how large the curtains and curtain rod must be. The rod must be able to accommodate the window and extend to about 2 inches past both sides of the window. The curtains should be about one-and-a-half times the width of the window to allow for scrunching.

    • 2

Inspect the hardware included with your curtain rod set. There should be an included list that tells you the size the of screws Take this list to a hardware or home improvement store and purchase concrete screws in the same size.

    • 3

Measure 2 inches from the outer edge of the top of the window and place the curtain rod support at this point. Mark the wall where the screw holes are located on the support. Repeat for the opposite side of the window. Check the markings with a carpenter's level to make sure they are even.

    • 4

Hold the curtain rod supports into place and use a drill to install the concrete screws. Work slowly and apply gentle, even pressure to guide the screws through the concrete. Do not force the screws into the wall -- let the drill and screw do the work and cut through the concrete.

    • 5

Slide the curtains onto the rod. Place the rod on the supports you just installed. If your curtain rod set has additional screws for securing the rod to the supports, install those now. Adjust the curtains to center them.
