How to Get Tinted Beeswax for Faux Finishing

Faux finishing furniture involves the creative use of a variety of materials to create innovative and unusual appearances on the wood. After you create your faux finish on the wood, sealing or coating the finish will help enhance the appearance and will also give it added durability. If you use tinted beeswax, you enhance the finish even more. Mix your own tinted beeswax for faux finishing to create beautiful interior decor.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 ounces beeswax
  • Quart-size glass canning jar
  • 1 quart saucepan
  • 8 ounces turpentine
  • Stirring spoon
  • Small bowl
  • Mica powder

Instructions

      Place 4 ounces of beeswax in a glass canning jar and set it in a saucepan filled with water. Place the saucepan on the stove top, set the burner temperature to medium and stir the beeswax as it melts. Remove the beeswax when it liquefies completely.

      Add 8 ounces of turpentine carefully to the melted beeswax, stirring gently as you combine the ingredients. Set the mixture aside at room temperature — as it cools, it will form a paste.

      Transfer the wax to a small bowl. Add one part mica powder to three parts beeswax paste to tint the beeswax. Stir the ingredients well to mix the powder through the beeswax thoroughly.
