Paint the brick surround to brighten up the space around the wood stove. Dark brick can overwhelm a small room, but changing it to a lighter color like white or cream makes the area seem larger. Cover any soot stains from the wood stove with a strong primer and then apply the final paint coat.
Decorate the area in seasonal décor. Hang a wreath directly on the brick surround or line either side surrounding the stove with holiday lights. Rotate the wreath throughout the season, using evergreen in the winter, dried fruits or leaves in the fall and floral in the spring and summer.
Accessorize the space on either side of the wood stove. Display fireplace tools in a style that goes with the furniture in the room. Place a matching box for log or kindling storage on the other side. Use non-traditional fireplace décor as well, such as displaying potted plants or tall sculptures. Aim for balance on either side of the stove.
Make a mosaic or tile decoration and adhere it directly to the sides or front of the wood stove. Lay out your tile plan on the floor and attach with heat-proof adhesive.
Create a decoupage design on the brick surround or onto tile to glue to the wood stove. Pick paper or fabric pictures to glue to the surface. Seal them in with a clear varnish to complete the project.
Place a heat-resistant decorative accessory or grouping of accessories directly on top of the wood stove. Arrange them in a pattern that shows off the features of each one.
