How Much Material Do You Need to Make a Full Size Comforter?

If you know how to sew, then you may want to attempt making a full-size comforter. Keep in mind that this project is a grand undertaking that will require a good deal of patience and attention to detail. A full-size comforter is about 54-by-75 inches, but you will use about triple this amount of material, depending on the type of comforter you are making.
  1. Base Measurements

    • The front and back base measurements of a full-size comforter generally are 54-by-75 inches. However, add one inch to the width and 1-1/2 inches to the length when preparing to sew your own. This allows room to sew the seams of the comforter. The two pieces of fabric should be exactly the same measurement to ensure easy sewing and transformation into a comforter.

    Duvet Measurements

    • If you are sewing a duvet comforter, your measurements for the front and back of the duvet will be 85-by-103-1/2 inches for a full-size piece.

    Stuffing

    • You will need enough quilter's or pillow stuffing for your full-size comforter, according to your taste, for fullness and fluffiness. Buy several bags of stuffing and fill your comforter. Take out excess or fill the comforter with more to your liking before you sew the comforter together.

    Thread

    • You will need at least a full spool of thread for this project.
