How to Paint Oak Cabinets With an Antique White

If you have a set of tawny oak cabinets that you would like to freshen up, then consider painting them antique white. This is fairly easy to do once you have all of the materials in place. You will need to keep in mind that when you paint over any piece of furniture that is already painted or glazed, you will need to sand the furniture first to help the new paint adhere.

  • Drop cloth
  • Painter's tape
  • Screwdriver
  • Sand paper
  • Primer (white)
  • Paint stick
  • Paint brush
  • Top coat (antique white)

Instructions

      Place a drop cloth on the counters or floor below the cabinets.

      Line the trim and walls surrounding the cabinets with painter's tape.

      Take the hardware off the cabinets with a screwdriver.

      Take off the cabinet doors and remove the hinges with a screwdriver.

      Sand the cabinet doors and cabinet frame.

      Open the primer and mix it thoroughly with a paint stick. Paint the cabinet doors and the cabinet frame with primer. Allow the primer to dry.

      Open the can of antique white top coat and paint the cabinets with the finish. Allow the paint to dry before putting the hardware and doors back on the cabinets and cabinet frames.
