Print out the phrase you plan to use after choosing a font and size on your computer. Remember that small letters are difficult to read across the room, so make letters at least 3 inches tall or larger depending on the size of the room. Another option is to cut out large letters from a magazine.
Cut out each letter of the quotation with a pair of sharp scissors.
Tape the letters down on a piece of plywood or another cutting surface that you don't mind damaging with knife marks. Use small pieces of masking tape to adhere the letters to the surface. Place the letters closely together to prevent waste -- about 1/2-inch apart -- but not so close that they're touching.
Lay a plastic sheet protector or a piece of clear acetate over the letters, and tape it down as well.
Cut through the plastic sheet with a utility knife, tracing around each letter.
Remove the tape from the plastic sheet once all the letters are cut out.
Pop out the letters with your fingers, and use the plastic sheet as a stencil to paint the letters on your wall.
