How to Glue Stone to Interior Walls

When you are redecorating your home, you can make the rooms look more rustic and textured by gluing stones onto the walls. Stone walls can transform a plain, uninteresting room into one that looks like it is from the Italian countryside. Although you can use standard hot glue to adhere stones onto craft projects, you cannot hot glue stones onto the interior walls of your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the entire wall's surface with a sanding buffer using a medium-grain sanding ring. This will remove major areas of roughness.

    • 2

Sand the entire wall's surface with the sanding buffer using a fine-grain sanding ring. This will make the wall smooth and even.

    • 3

Vacuum the wall and surrounding areas using a shop vacuum, which will eliminate debris caused by the sanding. Wipe the wall with a damp washcloth to remove any remaining dust, then allow the wall to dry for 30 minutes.

    • 4

Spread fine grout over the entire wall using a trowel. Apply the grout in an even, 2 inch thick layer.

    • 5

Press flat stones halfway into the grout, covering the entire surface of the wall with rocks. Space the stones 1/2 inch apart.

    • 6

Spread a second 1-inch thick layer of grout over the stones with the trowel.

    • 7

Scrape the trowel flat against the wall to remove excess grout. This will leave the grout in tact in between the stones, but will remove the excess grout from the surface of the stones. Wipe the stones clean using the washcloth. Allow the wall to dry for 12 hours.

    • 8

Paint a layer of clear sealant over the stone wall using a paintbrush, then allow the sealant to dry for eight hours.
