How to Make a Queen Flat Sheet Into a Bedskirt

The bed skirt, also known as a dust ruffle, hides the unsightly box spring under your mattress. If your bed is close enough to the floor, the bed skirt may also hide all of the clutter you shove under your bed. Unfortunately, most bed skirts are solid colors or hard to find in the color or pattern your want. To get exactly the bed skirt you want, convert a queen flat sheet. This thrifty substitute is suitable for twin- or queen-sized beds.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the mattress to allow you unobstructed access to the box spring. Move any furniture away from the sides of the bed so you can access the head of the box spring without climbing on the bed.

    • 2

Lay the queen flat sheet on the box spring and adjust until you are satisfied that the sheet covers the box spring evenly on each side. If you are using the sheet on a twin bed, the sheet will reach nearer the ground than on a queen bed.

    • 3

Align the top edge of the sheet with the top edge of the mattress.

    • 4

Pull the sheet further toward the head of the box spring or pull the over hang down at the foot of the box spring to create a bed skirt of even length on the sides and end.

    • 5

Pin the sheet at the head of the box spring with safety pins to hold it in place.

    • 6

Replace the mattress on top of the bed skirt and adjust the sheet as necessary to remove any wrinkles.
