How to Blend Two Paints Together for a Ceiling

If your ceiling needs a fresh coat of paint but you do not want to paint it a drab white, you can mix two colors to get a hint of color into your ceiling. You can choose from a wide variety of colors of paint, but purchase paint made specifically for application on ceilings. Most ceilings need a coat of primer on them before you paint the top coat.

Things You'll Need

  • Empty paint can
  • 2 ceiling paint colors (white and black, for example)
  • Paint stick

Instructions

    • 1

Place an empty paint can on the covered workspace or outdoor space such as grass.

    • 2

Fill three-quarters of the paint can with white base ceiling paint.

    • 3

Dip a teaspoon into the black ceiling paint -- or any other color of darker ceiling paint -- and add 1 teaspoon of darker-hued paint. You can always apply more color, not less. So add the darker paint 1 teaspoon at a time.

    • 4

Mix the paint thoroughly with a paint stick, churning it until all of the dark paint is blended into the white paint.
