Instructions

    • 1

Remove the mirror from the wall if possible. Carefully lay it down on a flat work surface.

    • 2

Measure the length and width of the wall mirror, then buy a foam sheet at your local crafts store. This ensures you purchase one that is large enough to make a frame. Purchase a foam sheet that is at least two inches larger all around than the wall mirror. If your mirror is quite large and there are no foam sheets available in that size, cut foam strips that are the width you desire, and glue then together with a low-temperature glue gun to create the frame. Save the Styrofoam that is left over for future craft projects.

    • 3

Position the foam sheet on the mirror to determine what size frame you need. Two- to 4-inch frames are appropriate for many wall mirrors. Mark the frame size on the foam sheet with a black permanent marker.

    • 4

Cut out a frame for the mirror by using a sharp serrated knife and following the outline you drew on the foam sheet. Rubbing a piece of paraffin or an old candle on the blades makes this less difficult.

    • 5

Spread the fabric on a flat work surface with the right side facing down. This is the side with the brightest colors. Use a ruler and a piece of chalk to mark the fabric 1 1/2 inches from the inside and outside of the frame. This provides excess fabric to glue to the backside of the mirror frame.

    • 6

Cut out the fabric with a pair of sharp scissors. Make a diagonal slit in the inside corners with your scissors. This allows you to glue the fabric neatly to the backside of the frame.

    • 7

Fold the fabric to the backside of the Styrofoam, and glue it in place with a low-temperature glue gun. Repeat this step on the inside and outside of the mirror frame.

    • 8

Glue the completed mirror frame to the mirror with the glue gun. If you don't want a permanent frame, use hook and loop discs with peel-off backing to attach the frame to the mirror.
