How to Decorate Without Ruining Plaster Walls

Rock-hard plaster walls make decorating a room difficult. Driving a nail into the wall often causes chips and cracks to form. Cracked plaster walls are often difficult to repair. Instead of ruining plaster walls with nails, decorate them with adhesive hooks or anchors. Light objects do not require much support, but heavy objects are best supported with sturdy wall anchors. Using the proper techniques keeps the plaster walls in good condition.

Instructions

  1. Light Objects

    • 1

Remove the paper backing from an adhesive hook.

    • 2

Select a spot on the wall where you wish to hang the hook.

    • 3

Press the adhesive hook onto the wall firmly until it sticks. The adhesive sticks firmly to the wall and usually supports only objects less than 5 pounds.

    Heavy Objects

    • 4

Drill a hole in the wall that is the size of the wall anchor. Read the package directions carefully to determine the size of drill bit to use.

    • 5

Insert the anchor all the way into the hole.

    • 6

Drive the packaged screw into the anchor.

    • 7

Leave a small portion of the screw sticking out so you can hang your object or picture.
