Conceal the gas meter by placing a folding room divider in front of it. Use one with sheer material like a Japanese shoji screens to allow light to pass through, or stick to one that’s solid wood. Position it close to the wall, folded outward to accommodate the structure of the gas meter.
Use a framed mirror or picture that’s tall and wide enough to cover the gas meter. Lean the framed item so it touches the wall above the gas meter for balance and extends downward to the floor.
Hang a curtain or decorative fabric piece from the ceiling above the gas meter and use it to conceal it. Screw two eyehooks into the ceiling at a point where they are far enough from the wall to be in front of the gas meter. Hang a curtain wire between the two eyehooks. Attach the fabric using curtain clips and spread it so it spans the gas meter.
Hide the gas meter in your basement by building a custom cover that slips over it. Measure the length, height and depth of the gas meter. Cut four pieces of plywood based on these dimensions; two pieces will be the sides, one will be the front and one will be the top. Nail the pieces together and slip this cover over the gas meter. Paint it or decorate it so it matches the rest of the basement.
