How to Create a Tabletop Feather Rock Fountain With Aqua Stone Accents

Tabletop fountains add visual interest to any table they decorate, along with adding to the decor of the rooms in which they are kept. Tabletop fountains may be purchased in boutiques and home supply stores, though incorporating these fountains into existing decor may be difficult as they may not always match. These fountains may also cost more than you care to spend for a decoration. The alternative is making your own inexpensive, custom tabletop fountain. Create a tropical and exotic-looking fountain using volcanic feather rock along with shimmering aqua-colored stones.

  • Decorative bowl
  • Water

Instructions

    • 1

Place the pump into the bowl, attaching the suction cups on the bottom of the pump to the bowl. Drape the electric cord over the back side of the bowl.

    • 2

Fill the bowl with enough water to operate the pump and then plug the pump into an electrical outlet. If the pump runs, unplug the pump and empty the water in the bowl. If the pump does not run, be sure it is properly installed and is not faulty.

    • 3

Fit the plastic tubing securely onto the spout on the pump.

    • 4

Fill the bottom of the bowl with large or misshapen feather rocks, as these rocks will not be seen. Arrange the rocks around the pump, filling the bottom of the bowl and covering the sides of the pump.

    • 5

Hold the plastic tube straight into the air with one hand. Place smaller feather rocks over the large feather rocks, stacking them on top of each other around the plastic tubing. This should form a type of "pyramid" that holds the tubing upright and allows the water to flow over the rocks in a visually appealing manner.

    • 6

Place aqua-colored stones into the stack of feather rocks in your fountain. Use the aqua stones sparingly, placing one aqua-colored stone amongst four or five feather rocks.

    • 7

Fill the bowl with enough water to operate the pump. Plug the pump into an electrical outlet.

    • 8

Adjust the stacked stones as needed to create a visually appealing water flow. Adjust the water level, adding more if necessary and removing extra by drawing it into a turkey baster.
