Place a piece of drywall into a bin of water and let it soak for three to five minutes. The more water soaks into the drywall, the more pliable it is for carving.
Peel the top layer of paper slowly off the drywall so you have access to the material underneath it.
Draw whatever design you want to carve into the drywall onto the surface with a pencil to help avoid mistakes. It may be challenging to get the pencil visible on the drywall surface, depending on how wet the material is. If it isn't working, draw the design on a piece of paper and use it as a reference.
Spray the drywall with water from a spray bottle to keep the surface moist.
Dip a wooden craft stick into the drywall and use it to carve your design or message into the drywall. Draw a picture, write a message or etch a design.
Spray the drying drywall with hairspray once you're finished to help seal it. Paint the drywall first if you want to add color to your artwork and seal it afterward.
