How to Make a Custom Toilet Seat

Even though there are a wide variety of customized toilet seats available for purchase in home stores and online, the truth is that you can make your own for much less money. This will also allow you to completely customize the toilet seat to reflect whatever color, pattern or design that you wish. Instructions

    • 1

Wash a plain white plastic or porcelain toilet seat thoroughly with hot water and a scrub brush. Wipe dry with a clean, dry rag.

    • 2

Dampen a soft cloth with rubbing alcohol and rub over the clean toilet seat to pick up any residual soap, film or other build up. Buff the seat dry.

    • 3

Set the toilet seat face-up on a drop cloth in a garage, yard or somewhere that is well ventilated.

    • 4

Shake a can of acrylic latex primer and hold the nozzle about 10 inches away from the seat. Spray a coat of primer over the entire exposed area of the toilet seat. Allow the primer to dry completely.

    • 5

Paint the toilet seat to your liking using vinyl paint and a paintbrush. You can choose to paint the toilet seat one color, or create a specific design according to your preferences. Allow the paint to dry completely.

    • 6

Apply a coat of sealer to protect the paint from being rubbed off, chipped or cracked.
