Raffia Ribbon Decoration Ideas

Raffia ribbon is made from fiber found in the palm fronds of the raffia palm from Madagascar. Raffia ribbon is traditionally used to wrap gifts, however, it can also be used as decorations for a party or the house. This type of ribbon is 100-percent biodegradable and is found in local arts and crafts stores. Raffia ribbon is made in various colors, and sold in bundles and on spools.
  1. Baskets

    • You can use raffia ribbon a variety of ways when decorating a home with baskets. To decorate the basket, tie or wrap the ribbon around the entire basket, and then tie a bow in the front. Attach a large bow made from raffia ribbon by tying it to the handle of a basket. When filling a basket with smaller items, you can open up and bundle a bunch of raffia ribbon on the bottom of the basket before adding pinecones or seashells.

    Holidays

    • Spruce up your house by making holiday-themed decorations or gifts using raffia paper. The ribbon will add color to wreaths, Christmas trees, along mantles and holiday table settings. You can string the ribbon around the Christmas tree and around doors as garland. Using raffia ribbon, make decorations, such as a witch or scarecrow for Halloween, or an angel for Christmas.

    Flowers

    • You can use Raffia ribbon to wrap a vase or tie a bow around it. You can also fill the bottom of the vase with the ribbon before placing silk flowers in it. Tie the raffia ribbon around a small floral arrangement and place it on the table, in a basket or in a vase.

    Linens

    • Weave raffia ribbon together to make different types of linen items that can be used throughout the home. For example, make a table runner, table mat or bed skirt using raffia ribbon. Te the ribbon around different household linens, such as curtains or fabric napkins, to add color and secure items out of the way.
