How to Make a Slipcover for a Couch With Winged Back

Wing-back couches have specifically shaped frames, which can make finding a well fitting slipcover difficult and expensive. Although you can find custom or premade wing-back couch covers in home stores and online, you will save money if you make the slipcover yourself. Even those with no sewing experience can create a customized slipcover in the fabric type and pattern of your choice. Upholstery pins can be purchased in craft stores and online and allow anybody to create a quality slipcover for any shape of couch.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the couch frame's width, length and height with a measuring tape and record them on a piece of paper. To get an accurate record of any curved parts of the wing-back frame, simply place the measuring tape across the highest point in the curve to ensure that there will be enough fabric for all areas. Also measure any removable couch cushions.

    • 2

Remove the cushions and center them over the fabric type and pattern of your choice, on a square piece cut to match the cushion's measurements. Fold the fabric up and over the cushion as if you were wrapping a gift. Secure the fabric to the bottom of the cushions by pressing the sharp tip of an upholstery twist-pin over the folded fabric and twist clockwise until snug. Use one pin for each corner of each cushion.

    • 3

Drape the wing-back frame with the same fabric, cut to match the measurements you took. Center the fabric over the couch frame.

    • 4

Smooth the fabric with your hands around the couch frame. Use an upholstery twist-pin every four inches or so, around the curved edges of the couch and around the inside of the cushion area.

    • 5

Replace the covered cushions to the covered couch frame.
