How to Hang Frames With a Wire From the Ceiling

Hanging picture frames from the ceiling provides an alternative when you’re searching for a distinctive look or when wall space isn’t available. It also provides a method to display artwork in a nontraditional yet modern way through a room, since suspended picture frames create an illusion of floating in space. Have someone you can call on for assistance during the process, as climbing a ladder unspotted can be dangerous, especially while lifting a heavy frame.

Instructions

    • 1

Screw a single eyehook at the top center of your picture frame. Use a drill to create a starter hole for easier installation if necessary.

    • 2

Locate a stud in your ceiling in the area where you plan to hang the picture. Mark the spot with a small pencil mark.

    • 3

Drill a pilot hole into the ceiling and stud. Screw an eyehook into place.

    • 4

Measure down from the ceiling eyehook to the point where you want the top of the picture. Add 6 inches to the measurement and cut a piece of high-tension airplane wire to that length.

    • 5

Thread the high-tension airplane wire through the ceiling eyehook and fold it over 3 inches. Snap a wire rope clip into place to secure the wire. Repeat the threading and securing process on the eyehook of the picture frame to complete the hanging.
