How to Decorate Using Silhouette Graphics

The contrast between the background and the focal point of a silhouette can grab attention, even with its simplistic design. Whether you use silhouettes of family members or other generic graphics, silhouettes add a decorating flair to your home. Decorate interior rooms using silhouette graphics to add bold and contemporary accessories, not only to walls but to other areas of your home, as well.

Instructions

Create framed art with silhouette graphics. Trace around the silhouette shape onto lightweight colored paper. Cut out the traced silhouette shape carefully, and then glue it onto standard white paper cut to the size of your frame. Insert the silhouette shape into the frame. Make a series of framed silhouettes in complementary frames. Mount the framed silhouettes on a wall, staggering them into a wall art design that becomes a focal point in your room.

Select a candid picture of a person to blow up and use as a wall sticker. Ideal photos include someone playing sports, dancing, skipping rope, running and jumping or just standing. The photo needs to have a clear outline of the person's entire body -- a side shot that shows the facial profile works especially well. Email the photo to a company that produces wall stickers, choosing the colors and any text along with the silhouette. When you receive the wall sticker, follow manufacturer instructions to attach the life-size sticker to a wall -- these stickers add a nice decorating touch to bedrooms.

Print out a copy of the silhouette on standard paper and cut out the shape. Place the shape onto a dark or bright fabric and pin it in place. Use the paper pattern to cut out the same shape from the fabric. Place the fabric silhouette shape onto lighter fabric cut to pillow dimensions. Use fabric glue to glue the fabric silhouette shape to the pillow fabric. Machine stitch carefully around the outer edge of the silhouette fabric using thread that matches the silhouette fabric precisely. Sew the front fabric piece to a backing piece and stuff the pillow with fiberfill to finish. Add the pillow to a couch or chair as an accent pillow.
