How to Decorate With Tulle & Rhinestones

Tulle fabric -- filmy and light, available in a variety of hues -- can add instant softness and sheer color when you use it to decorate. Tulle fabric is also inexpensive, making it an affordable material to use. Whether you are decorating a little girl’s room or a big girl’s wedding, don’t forget to add tulle. When you decorate with tulle and rhinestones, the fabric shimmers and light dances wherever you hang it.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area where you wish to hang or drape the tulle by measuring between each point or along the total distance. If you plan to swag the tulle between two points, measure the distance between each point and multiply the measurement by 1.5. Add up the measurements, if applicable. Cut the tulle to the length you require.

    • 2

Estimate the number of rhinestones you would need to cover the tulle fabric. For example, if you want to glue rhinestones every 6 inches over the tulle, you need about 15 rhinestones per yard. Multiply 15 times the number of yards of tulle to determine the number of rhinestones you need.

    • 3

Spread a clean disposable vinyl tablecloth out on a flat surface. Spread the tulle out on the tablecloth. Measure out your rhinestone placement with a ruler. Make a small dot at each point where you will attach a rhinestone with a fabric marker. The fabric marker will mark through the tulle to the vinyl tablecloth.

    • 4

Place a small dot of jewel adhesive on the back of each rhinestone and press it firmly onto the tulle at the marks you made. Do not use so much adhesive that it squeezes out from the sides as you press the rhinestones onto the tulle -- a tiny dot of glue is sufficient -- you don't want to glue the tulle to the tablecloth beneath. Allow the adhesive to dry completely.

    • 5

Affix the adhesive hooks at the points from which you wish to hang the tulle -- on the ceiling, on walls, around doorways, around an arch or on chairs, for example.

    • 6

Stretch the prepared tulle between the hooks, swagging and draping it attractively. At the points where the tulle meets the hooks, gather the tulle and place it over the hooks to hold it in place.

    • 7

Stand back to assess the effect. Rearrange the tulle between the hooks, as necessary, until the tulle looks the way you desire.
