How to Use Adobe Brick As a Facade

When decorating an interior space in your home, you may think of painting the walls or applying wallpaper. However, you can also make a room look more homey and rustic by installing an adobe brick wall. Although full-size adobe bricks are heavy and costly, adobe brick facade tiling is less so -- they're thin sections of brick made to serve as a decorative element rather than a structural one. You can buy them inexpensively and install them with minimal experience, allowing you to create a beautiful adobe facade interior without spending a lot of money in the process.

Instructions

    • 1

Spread a 1/2-inch thick layer of mortar over the wall that you want to transform using a trowel.

    • 2

Pull a mortar rake through the mortar to "scratch" and groove the surface.

    • 3

Press 1/2-inch-thick adobe brick facade tiles halfway into the mortar. Space the bricks 1/4 inch apart.

    • 4

Apply a 1/4-inch-thick layer of medium grout over the surface of the brick facade, then scrape the trowel over the adobe brick tiles to remove the excess grout.

    • 5

Wipe a damp washcloth along the creases to make them smooth and even.

    • 6

Allow the adobe brick facade wall to dry for 12 to 18 hours.
