How Can I Install & Mount a Sintra Board Onto a Wall?

Sintra boards are a brand of smooth-sided foam board suitable for mounting photographs, artwork and other items for display. The boards come in varying sizes that you can cut down. The boards are smooth on both sides, so mounting them on a wall requires extra hardware. The size of the board influences just how you can install it, though, as the very large boards may be too heavy for a few adhesive squares.

Things You'll Need

  • Removable or permanent adhesive squares for posters
  • Foamboard hooks
  • Oversize picture frame

Instructions

Stick small adhesive squares on the back of small boards. These look like small squares of white or dark gray foam and are available at stationary, craft and art supply stores and come in both removable and permanent form. They are meant to hold up posters, so they may not work for larger, heavier boards.

Pierce the back of the board with foamboard hooks. These are brackets that allow you to hang the board on a picture hook. Two sharp hooks lead up to a horizontal serrated bar similar to the picture-hanging brackets you see on the backs of framed paintings. The bars hook onto nails or picture hooks in the wall. There are width requirements, however; if the board is too thin, the hooks can break through the front. The package should list the minimum thickness needed. The hooks don’t always hold up that much -- strength can be limited in some brands -- so very large boards may need another method of attachment.

Insert very large boards into oversize picture frames that have their own hooks or hanging system. These systems could have long wires that you’d hook on picture hooks, or they could have their own hook systems attached directly to the frame. Either way, ensure any hardware you have to add is strong enough to hold the weight of the frame and board.
