Instructions

  1. Kitchen Islands

    • 1

Measure the perimeter of your kitchen island. Mark the measurements on salvaged corrugated tin panels and cut along the lines with electric swivel-head cutting shears. Cut them so the ribbed pattern runs vertically. Leave the panels in their vintage state for shabby chic style.

    • 2

Apply construction adhesive to the island in a zigzag pattern. Press the tin roof panels firmly against the island for a couple of minutes before releasing.

    • 3

Screw 2-inch screws into the corners of the paneling to ensure the panels don't work loose. The glue prevents you from using an unsightly amount of screws, while the screws add extra security to the panels.

    Kitchen Ceilings

    • 4

Purchase new tin roof panels or paint the material with rust-proof metallic spray paint.

    • 5

Remove all light fixtures and ceiling fans from your kitchen ceiling before installing your new ceiling.

    • 6

Cut holes in the ceiling panels to correlate with the light fixtures. Screw the panels into the ceiling with 2-inch screws every 18 inches.

    Modern Bedroom

    • 7

Cut new tin panels into 2-foot-wide sections.

    • 8

Draw lines on the wall from the floor to the ceiling in 2-foot increments with a pencil. Run painter's tape along the lines.

    • 9

Paint every other section in electric blue for a teenager. Consider using a variety of contrasting colors in a younger child's room. Allow the paint to dry overnight.

    • 10

Screw the tin roof panels into the unfinished sections of the wall with 2-inch screws.

    Artistic Room Dividers

    • 11

Lay two 4-foot-wide sections of corrugated tin roof panels on a clean flat surface. Count the number of indentations and protuberances on each piece. Arrange an equal number of 16-ounce paper coffee cups on a nearby work surface.

    • 12

Fill each cup with the darkest hue of the color you wish to use in the room. Add 1/4 teaspoon of white paint to the second cup. Increase the increments of white paint by 1/4 teaspoon for each additional cup.

    • 13

Paint the first section of the tin with the first color. Continue painting each subsequent indentation and protuberance one shade lighter than the previous color until you have painted the entire piece.

    • 14

Allow the paint to dry and then paint the other side. Paint the second roof panel using the same method.

    • 15

Drill holes 1 inch from the top two corners of each panel using a 1/4-inch drill bit.

    • 16

Twist eye hooks into the ceiling. Hang your new room dividers from the hooks, allowing 18 inches of space between them.
