How to Make a Curved Bed Canopy

Whether you’re making a room with a fairy-tale theme for a child or seeking a way to add color to an adult’s room, a bed canopy can provide a way to do it. Instructions

    • 1

Measure from the floor on the side of the bed to the ceiling above the center of the head of the bed to determine the length of canopy fabric you’ll need.

    • 2

Cut three panels of fabric the length of your measurement and a width of at least 45 inches to provide full coverage. Use sheer fabric, such as tulle, to let the light shine through, or pick something thicker, like velvet, for a regal appearance.

    • 3

Hem any raw edges of the fabric for a finished look.

    • 4

Open and separate the two sections of an embroidery hoop that has a circumference of at least 18 inches.

    • 5

Tie four pieces of decorative cord, each 9 inches long, to the inner circle of the embroidery hoop. Space them evenly along the edges. Gather the cord ends together and thread through a large bead. Knot at the top.

    • 6

Install a pot rack hook in the ceiling above the head of the bed. Drill a pilot hole for easy installation.

    • 7

Wrap the top 1 inch of the three panels of fabric around the outer hoop, bunching to accommodate each piece. Slip the inner hoop back on and screw into place to tightly hold the fabric.

    • 8

Mount the canopy by slipping the cord over the hook above the bed. Arrange each piece so it drapes around the bed.
