How to Make Fabric Pots

Decorating for a memorable event can be costly, such as a wedding reception or anniversary dinner. Table centerpieces often add to this cost when purchased from a florist shop or wedding-supply store. As an alternative, save money by making decorative centerpieces using materials and tools found around the house or purchased inexpensively from a craft store. For example, create a fabric pot for flowers, using inexpensive cloth hand-selected to match the rest of your party decor.

Instructions

    • 1

Roll a terracotta pot over a sheet of paper, tracing around the pot as you roll to draw out the shape of the pot onto the paper.

    • 2

Cut out the paper form, using scissors.

    • 3

Place the paper form over a piece of fabric, then trace out the form onto the fabric adding 2 inches onto each edge. Cut out the fabric shape with scissors.

    • 4

Place the paper form over a piece of double-sided adhesive paper, then trace and cut out the shape, adding 2 inches onto each edge.

    • 5

Peel one side of the backing off the double-sided adhesive paper, then adhere the adhesive paper onto one side of the fabric shape. Keep the patterned side of the fabric opposite from the adhesive.

    • 6

Peel off the backing from the other side of the adhesive paper, then wrap the form around the outside of the terracotta pot. Center the pot along the mid-line of the fabric form as you wrap. Overlap the excess fabric on the wrapped edge.

    • 7

Snip lines along the excess fabric on the top edge of the pot, spacing the lines 1 inch apart. Fold the top cut edge over into the inside of the pot, and cut off the excess fabric along the bottom edge of the pot.
