How to Make Corian as Smooth as a Concrete Floor

Corian countertops are known for their durability and decorative appearance. However, the surface of Corian may not be as smooth as other surfaces in your home, such as your polished concrete floor. Although Corian can be replaced by a different material by a professional craftsman, replacing counters is often costly. One option is to transform and smooth the surface of the Corian counters using a few basic supplies purchased from any hardware or home improvement store.

Grease-fighting soap
Plastic scrubber
Towel
Electric sander
Fine-grit sanding belt
Epoxy-based paint
Half-sized paint roller
2-inch flat paintbrush

Instructions

  Scrub the surface of the Corian counter using a grease-fighting soap and a plastic scrubber to remove any food particles, staining or residue.

  Dry the counter well with a towel.

  Sand the surface of the Corian counter using an electric sander with a fine-grit sanding belt. This will smooth down any scratches or unevenness caused by use.

  Wipe off the counters well with a towel to remove any dust and debris caused by the sanding.

  Paint an even layer of epoxy-based paint over the entire Corian counter using a half-sized paint roller. Apply the paint around corners and edges using a 2-inch flat paintbrush. Allow the paint to dry for eight to 10 hours.

  Apply a second coat of epoxy-based paint over the counter as you did the first coat, and allow the second coat to dry for an additional eight to 10 hours before use.
