Do It Yourself: Decorate the Kitchen Table With Rocks

Polished river rocks are a decorating medium for all seasons. Available in many colors or in collections of assorted hues, they bring an element of nature to your kitchen table decor. Use them in centerpieces, vases or as decorative mats and table runners. You'll find polished river rocks affordably priced in most craft supply or home improvement stores or you can find your own from a nearby stream. Rocks from a stream will not have the shiny finish unless treated with a light coating of polyurethane.

  • Mosaic glue
  • 3 to 4 bags of river rocks

Instructions

    • 1

Cover a solid work surface with newspaper. Lay out your first felt sheet and practice arranging the river rocks in an attractive pattern.

    • 2

Coat the back of each rock, one at a time, with glue and press them onto the felt sheet, starting in the middle and covering the entire sheet with river rocks. Repeat with the other two sheets. Allow your pads to dry overnight.

    • 3

Arrange your three river rock pads in the center of your table, end to end, with a small space in between. Set a large wooden bowl on the center pad.

    • 4

Fill the bowl one-third full with white sand. Place three white pillar candles of graduating sizes in the sand. Tie a strip of burlap around each of the three candles.

    • 5

Place one or two leftover river rocks and a few seashells in the sand and light the candles for a soft, romantic glow.
