How to Decorate a Frameless Mirror With Clings

Faux Frame

• If you prefer the look of a frame on a mirror, use clings to create a frame or border around it. Contact paper or sticky-backed shelf paper can be used to create your own cling material for the border. Cut strips of uniform width out of a colored or frosted sheet of contact paper for each side of the frame, or make small faux glass tiles from different colors of contact paper, arranging them around the mirror in a border like a mosaic frame.

Decorative Borders

• Clings can be used to border the mirror as decorative accents rather than give the look of a solid frame. Arrange shapes such as flowers staggered around the perimeter of the mirror, connected with other clings that look like vines. A series of bare footprint or seashell clings around the perimeter gives the mirror a beach feel, while guitars, lightning bolts or a parade of kittens may be more suited to a teenager's room. Swap out the decor for seasonal holidays, such as a border of pumpkins, skulls or leaves in autumn.

Scenery

• The mirror can be used as an innovative art canvas, with clings as the scenic decor. For example, clings of wildlife and plants create a scene with rabbits poking out behind trees and tall blades of grass or looking up at butterflies. For a young child's room, rockets and comets fly across the mirror sky as a young astronaut walks on the moon surface. The rest of the mirror is still open and useful for checking one's appearance.

Faux Frosted Glass

• Contact paper or window film with a frosted glass finish emulates the look of expensive etched or frosted glass, turning that mirror into what appears to be an expensive custom creation. Copy an ornate border design from a clip-art book onto paper, then trace it on the back of a sheet of contact paper or window cling film to create a frosted frame for the mirror. The frosted effect can be used to spell out a word, such as a child's name, or cut out a large symbol such as a peace symbol or large blades of grass to add visual interest to the mirror.
