Colors to Use on Bedroom Walls to Go With Black and Cream Toile Fabric

Toile is a popular fabric found on furniture, drapes and wall coverings. Its repetitive scenes such as classical Greek and Roman figures or French countryside tableaux are printed in one color against a solid background. Black and cream toile fabric goes well with cool or warm tones on a bedroom wall. Comparing the color tones on a color wheel to the toile fabric may help you visualize the color combinations that will work best in your bedroom.
  1. Black and Cream

    • Black is a warm color and cream is a cool color according to the Apartment Therapy website. Warm colors are stimulating, while cool colors are calming. This seems to put black and cream in a perfect balance for use on the walls of a bedroom. While all-black walls may be overwhelming, cream walls may be too stark. Paint the bottom half of the walls in a flat black and the upper walls in cream. Use accent colors such as red or cobalt blue in accessories such as a vase, jewelry case or mirror frame.

    Light Gray

    • Light gray is a cool, neutral color that seems to be a blend of the black and cream found in the toile fabric. Try painting your bedroom walls a light gray if you want to create a calming, cool feeling. Also, use your bedroom only as a sleeping area where you want to relax and wind down from the day, preparing for sleep.

    Yellow

    • Paint your bedroom walls a sunny yellow if you feel the need for warmth and brightness. The solid yellow provides a strong background for the black and cream toile fabric without overpowering it. Yellow may even be the perfect background to highlight the scenery on the toile fabric. It makes it easy for your eye to pick out each scene as it's repeated.

    Light Violet

    • Light violet is a cool purple tone that will complement the cream background of the toile fabric, while enabling your eye to focus on the flow of the fabric's scenes. It's a cool, calming color, sure to induce relaxation and a sense of well-being. The colors of accessories should be light to neutral tones such as glossy white, eggshell or light tan to prevent bold colors from clashing with the light violet walls.
