Colors of PVC Kitchen Cabinets

PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride and is a synthetic resin with many qualities that make it a practical material for making kitchen cabinets. PVC is fire-retardant, waterproof and termite-proof. PVC is also economical. Sometimes PVC is referred to as "thermofoil," meaning the cabinet is made of a foil of PVC over a fiberboard core. PVC cabinets come in a wide variety of colors and finishes, ranging from natural wood grain to bright, primary colors.
  1. Natural Wood Grain

    • Although PVC cabinets are not made from natural hardwoods, many people who purchase PVC cabinets are seeking the appearance of natural hardwood. For this reason, PVC cabinets come in a variety of wood grain finishes, from white ash to mahogany. Synthetic wood grain cabinets capture the beauty and elegance of natural wood cabinets without incurring the cost.

    White

    • Solid white is a common color for PVC cabinets, probably because white is guaranteed to match (or at least not clash with) most colors in your kitchen. White is also a light and airy color that can open up the space in the kitchen and give it the appearance of cleanliness. However, white is also generic. This is often the color of cabinets installed in apartments and rental units, because it's suitable for different types of tenants.

    Bright Colors

    • PVC comes in many colors, including a lot of unconventional colors, such as tomato red, bright blue, lime green and golden yellow. These types of cabinets stand out and make an impression. These colors have a modern, almost plastic appearance. The downside of this bright, bold color for your cabinets is that once you've committed to a single color, you may need to remove your cabinets and start over if you decide to change the color of your kitchen.

    Neutrals

    • Neutral colors such as light and dark gray, beige, tan and cream present a suitable alternative to solid white cabinets, because neutrals add a little color without committing to a single color scheme. Neutral-colored cabinets can be mixed and matched with a variety of colors elsewhere in the kitchen.
