What Stain Would Match Blue Vinyl Siding?

Many home designs combine vinyl siding with wood trim or a wooden front door. If you have blue vinyl siding, there are several wood stain colors that harmonize with the color of your home. In order to choose the most complementary stain color for your trim and door, you must consider the depth of color in your siding and how much contrast you desire.
  1. White-Wash

    • White-wash stain is a common option for a house with blue vinyl siding because the soft white color matches most shades of blue. White-wash stain can be used in place of white paint if you want your wood trim or wooden door to keep its natural wood-grain finish. Avoid white-wash stain if you want your wood trim to have a bright, solid white finish. White-wash stain has a soft-white or an off-white appearance that allows the color variations in the wood to show through. White-wash stain should only be used on light-colored wood such as pine or oak.

    Oak

    • If you want your blue vinyl home to have natural wood accessories and trim, oak-colored stain is a great choice as long as the blue in your vinyl is saturated with color. Light-blue, sky-blue or gray-blue vinyl siding does not have enough depth of color to blend with a light yellow wood stain like oak. Select a natural oak or a classic oak stain to blend with ocean-blue, indigo or deep blue vinyl siding. Oak stain complements a country or cottage motif because the light-colored wood grains blend with primitive country accessories. Depending on the depth of color you want to achieve, you can apply several coats of oak stain to make your trim or wood door a darker hue.

    Pine

    • Pine has a soft muted grain that adds subtle warmth to a blue vinyl home design. Since blue is considered a cool color, the warm brown, beige and golden hues in pine add charm to the exterior of a home. If your wood trim or front door has rustic knotty imperfections in the wood, pine-colored stain enhances the natural beauty of the wood. Because pine has a yellow-gold tint, it looks best when paired with deep shades of blue vinyl like denim blue, sapphire and ocean blue. Avoid using pine with pale blue or gray-blue vinyl siding.

    Blue Stain

    • Wood stain comes in several shades of blue that can be matched with blue vinyl siding. To ensure that blue stain doesn't clash with the blue color in your vinyl, get a few stain color swatches at your local hardware store and hold them up to your vinyl. View the color swatches at different times of the day to select a blue stain that blends with your vinyl during different lighting conditions. Choose an exact match to your vinyl for a unified look or choose a complementary blue hue that is lighter or darker than your vinyl color for a contrasting appearance.
