Layer similar colors of paint. Choose two or three shades in the same family. Paint the wall with one shade. Wait until it dries and then apply the next shade of paint. Continue until you've worked your way through the multiple shades that you selected.
Measure your wall and draw a simple sketch of the wall. Divide the sketch of the wall into equal vertical sections. Using a tape measure, level and pencil, lightly trace these vertical divisions onto the wall. Paint the wall using horizontal stripes. Use two similar shades of a color and alternate the shades across the vertical divisions of the wall.
Measure and sketch the wall. This time divide the sketch into equal squares. Make each square fairly large, at approximately 2 square feet in area or more. Use a tape measure, level and pencil to trace these blocked divisions onto the wall. Choose two or three similar shades of paint to apply to the blocks.
Apply a texture to your paint by using a sponge or a rolled up microfiber cloth to dab the paint onto the wall. You also can apply texture by painting a section of the wall and dragging a notched window squeegee over the section to create grooves in the paint.
