Ideas to Design a Girl's Bedroom With Black, White and Pink

Pink is a color often considered when painting a girl’s room, and with the addition of white and black, the color palette works for girls of a wide age range. Whether you go with a fanciful free-hand design on the walls or use favorite storybook illustrations to decorate the space, the pink, black and white color combination will delight a girl and inspire many sweet dreams.
  1. Whimsical Swirls

    • A color combination that works in a nursery right up through a room for a preteen, the choice of black, white and pink is both feminine and energetic. When you start with very pale pink wall paint, you set the stage for the remaining coordinating colors. "Drama walls" aren't just for adult spaces, and when you paint the wall that contains the doorway black, added free-hand swirls and scrolls look whimsical. Bedding in slightly deeper shades of pink and topped with classic white eyelet pillowcases brightens the room and makes it little-girl-friendly. Coordinate the fanciful design from the drama wall onto bureau drawer fronts and a hand-painted area rug to complete the space.

    Graphic Flowers

    • Little girls and flowers seem to go hand-in-hand. Pale pink wall paint is a useful backdrop to large, hand-painted flower forms that feature white and pink petals. A center bud is the perfect excuse to add a touch of black to the artwork. Showcase some creative touches, like polka dots, swirls or even the child’s name painted within the circular center. When you paint a black outline around all the elements in the flower, the result reflects the illustrative style in many children’s books. Allow the mural to grace the wall over the child’s bed, and then carry the theme throughout the room by topping light pink bed linen with a floral comforter. Use a flower area rug to warm the room, while whitewashed dressers and end tables finish the transformation.

    Polka Dots

    • Peel-and-stick graphics are a quick and easy way to add a big splash in a girl’s room. Polka dots in many sizes are available in pink and black, and can break up a standard white bedroom wall in a festive way. Once you place the polka dots on one or two of the room’s walls, you can reflect the theme with tiny dots on window sheers and bed linens. Paint wood dressers pink and white, and add a black dot with a glossy round drawer pull. Round, dot-like novelty rugs scattered on the floor add the finishing touch.

    Story Books

    • A search through your child’s library will provide well-rendered images of fairy-tale princesses, flower gardens and animals that fit in your color scheme. Color-scan the images from her favorite books, and frame in light pink or white wood frames. Hang them to decorate the walls over her bed, desk and doorway. Read through the books for prose that reflects on friendships, self-esteem and beauty, then hand-write in black paint on the wall to remind your tot of good lessons learned. Solid light pink bed linens and whitewashed furniture warm the room without distracting from the artwork.
