How to Decorate a Gray Room With Brown Floors

If you're stuck with certain color schemes in your home, don't despair. You can work wonders by adding accents, painting trim or adding hanging art and pictures. Some colors work better than others for blending and decorating. Gray, for example, is a neutral color without many undertones. Almost any other neutral color will work with it but some work better than others, with blue or even blue-green at the top of the list. For brown floors, almost any mahogany or spiced walnut works. You need to stay with a slightly darker trim to match brown flooring.

Instructions

    • 1

Hang framed mirrors. Choose a walnut-framed mirror that accents the brown on the floor. Mirrors help to bounce light around the room.

    • 2

Put up light blue or aqua curtains. Choose a light color of blue that is also considered neutral, but with enough blue to set it apart. Place light blue or blue-green pillows on your couch, or replace your couch with one that has an amber or a light gold color.

    • 3

Place light cherry or mahogany end tables or coffee tables in the room. Place hardwood chairs in the room, but don't use natural wood. Use wood that has been stained.

    • 4

Choose TVs, stereos or electronic equipment with silver accents. Silver goes well with gray, and even if the equipment has black lines or some black paint, it will look good.

Hang art. Use artwork that incorporates other colors in the room. Try the abstracts with mixed color that might include colors from your couch, pillows or curtains. Try landscapes that include light amber, subtle ocean waves and neutral colors.
