Hiding Heater Ducts

Most heater ducts are hidden inside your home’s walls so you don’t have to see them. However, in some cases, especially if you live in an older home with new ductwork, some of the ductwork is out in the open. While the ductwork is an important part of your home’s heating system, you can downplay its appearance to better blend in with your décor. When hiding heater ducts, be sure to use materials that are heat resistant to avoid fire hazards.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase paint the same color as your wall. A darker paint will hide the heater ducts better than a light-colored paint. If needed, you can paint your walls with the visible ductwork a darker color for this purpose.

    • 2

Cover any floors or furniture under the ductwork with drop cloths to keep the paint from making a mess.

    • 3

Paint the ductwork with heat-resistant paint. Open several windows as you paint to keep the area well ventilated.

    • 4

Allow the paint to dry for 12 to 24 hours.
