Colors That Complement Driftwood Floor Color

Driftwood, a Pantone color trend in the early 2010s, is a neutral color that can passively stay in the background while vivid colors surround it; or it can be the focus of your decorating choices. Many shades of driftwood are available, and it’s up to you to choose one that has the quiet undertones you like. Whether you decorate with warm or cool colors, driftwood is an ideal base to start from – one that’s trendy, modern and daring.
  1. Monochrome

    • Taupe undertones in a driftwood floor set the stage for a monochromatic decor. Paint the walls a brown-gray and the trim in crisp, glossy white. If your ceiling is high, continue the wall color onto the ceiling. If it’s low, paint the ceiling white. Furnishings upholstered in herringbone or tweed gray-latte or oatmeal provide texture in a monochromatic environment. Yellow adds warmth to the surroundings. Photographs in sepia, mounted in cream and framed in gray, silver, pewter or yellow lacquer, complete the theme. For a dash of life, add a tabletop or an abundant floor plant in green or poppy orange.

    Earth Tones

    • The calm and serenity of earth tones blends well with a driftwood floor. Choose teal, sage, brown or shades of blue as your accompanying colors. Paint the walls gray with the exception of a feature wall. Use teal Venetian plaster for the feature wall, or cover it in decorative wallpaper that incorporates earth tones. Add a spark to the room with colored accessories and artwork, pulling the eye upward from the floor.

    Warm Colors

    • Some driftwood has an undertone of light pink. This opens the door for rich crimson, burgundy or raspberry being used effectively to complement the floor color. Use patterned upholstery that includes burgundy on the sofa, and cover side pieces in solids. Toss coordinating throw pillows and a woven blanket onto the solid furniture. An area rug featuring dusty burgundy, putty and turquoise on a champagne background ties your colors together.

    Beach Colors

    • Driftwood flooring is an ideal backdrop for a cool, crisp beach theme. Combine white with navy for the wall coloring and paint all trim glossy white. Cover sofas with sage and cream ticking or stay with the blue-and-white theme in a similar upholstery. Add oatmeal, sand and a dash of aqua in accessories and artwork. Lay a caramel sisal or oatmeal Berber area rug on top of the flooring to add contrast.
