How to Pull Off a Gray & Pink Room

Behind every beautifully designed room is someone who took a chance. You may be dreaming in gray and pink but hesitant about choosing a nontraditional color scheme. Whether you are thinking about making over your kitchen or bedroom, you don't have to fret about whether or not you are making the right choice. There are a number of ways to combine a quiet gray with an outgoing pink using paint, decor accents and fabrics.
  1. Be Confident

    • Confidence is key with any room makeover. Your confidence in your color choices adds to the overall ambiance. Don't be afraid to mix fabrics such as gray polka dots with pink florals or a geometric patterned throw rug that features both colors together. Paint kitchen cabinets gray and make a statement by throwing different shades of pink into the tile or window valance. Bring out the bold pinks for the bedroom comforter set such as fuschia and hot pink, painting the walls a neutral gray. Take painter's tape and create gray striped walls in the living room. Let go of control and add pink throw pillows in a trendy pattern such as chevron.

    Accessorize

    • Picture frames, throw pillows and other accessories are essential to pulling together a gray and pink room. Against soft or vibrant pink walls, add a charcoal vase with hot pink flowers. Throw a pink herringbone patterned throw rug over a muted gray carpet. In a bedroom, hang tissue paper poms in both colors over the bed. Hang a silver mirror to reflect the gray tones in the color scheme.

    Three is Company

    • Having two colors is great, but having three is even better. Choose a third color to incorporate into the color scheme. Perhaps gray, pink and white. Go with a noncompeting color, one that will only enhance the look of the space. Use this color as an accent color; for example, painting all of the doors and trim white while leaving the furnishings and accessories gray and pink. Paint gray-and-white stripes on a wall and place a sofa in front of it with a deep pink cover and multicolored throw pillows. Add fresh white flowers in a white vase on top of a gray kitchen counter in front of a window dressed with a soft pink flourish of curtains.

    Layer It

    • Whether you are planning the paint, furnishings or fabrics to be one color, layer the alternate color on top. Gray walls really make powder pink picture frames pop. A cherry blossom pink bedspread with smokey gray stitched pillows makes a great combination. Steel gray tiled bathroom floors will benefit with the addition of a fluffy, shaggy, champagne-pink rug. Try to think in terms of marrying the two colors so that the entire space is cohesive.
