How to Decorate With Orange

Decorating with orange can invoke images of a warm tropical sunset, or the hue of the inside of a peach. Since some shades of orange can be dramatic, its important to use them in a way that complement your environment -- not overpower it. From bright to subtle glimpses of color to a backdrop for other, more neutral, shades, orange can bring depth and interest to your decorating scheme.

Instructions

  1. Accent Wall

    • 1

Choose one wall in your room to paint orange and serve as an accent wall. For instance, in a bedroom, you can choose the wall behind your bed to function as the accent wall.

    • 2

Paint the other three walls a pale, neutral shade that looks good next to the color orange you have chosen. Be cautious with bright white because it could look stark next to the orange.

    • 3

Decorate the room mostly in neutral shades with a pop of orange color here and there, such as in throw pillows, lampshades, rugs or artwork.

    Mix It Up

    • 4

Choose a color combo that pairs well with orange, such as bright orange and royal blue, purple or red.

    • 5

Decorate the room with different items that incorporate the colors you have chosen, such as an orange-and-royal-blue bedspread with a royal blue rug. Or do the same with a red and orange scheme.

    • 6

Add a third color, such as yellow to a red-and-orange combo or a deep green to a blue-and-orange scheme. Incorporate the third color via artwork, towels, throw pillows or side tables.
