Color Types for a Porch

Whether in the front or backyard, the porch sits in front of the exterior of the home. Because of this, a porch looks best when it complements the style and shade of the house it is built for. Although wood and concrete offer only a limited range of colors, pigments and paints can be applied to make a porch into an extension of the home's personality.
  1. Vermillion

    • This reddish shade of paint lends a classic feel to a deck or porch. Vermillion is a dark red that is more reminiscent of brick than fire engine. Vermillion goes with brown, black, white and gray houses as well as light blue and violet.

    Green

    • Decks and porches come in green shades from muted to bright to evergreen deep. This color has an organic feel and hides dirt more than white or other bright colors. Green porches are compatible with white, brown, green and gray houses but are not as compatible with violet and some shades of blue.

    Turquoise

    • Turquoise is a stone that is both organic and brilliant with a bright blue that stands out even as it blends in with a natural background. This blue also provides a cheery shade that reflects heat from sunlight and complements white, green and blue homes.

    Cream

    • For natural wood homes, as well as those with vinyl siding, cream color is a shade of beige that hides dirt better than bright white but still reflects enough sun to keep the temperature cool. Cream is a light but neutral color that complements most color homes and patio furniture.

    Plum

    • Although purple is not as common a color for either houses or porches, plum is a warm and inviting color for the porch or deck. This color is surprisingly organic and suits both light and dark home colors while providing a pleasant backdrop for plants or gardens.

    Gray

    • An easy-to-match color, gray suits most color homes and reflects light while remaining easier on the eyes than bright white. Especially suitable for French country style homes, this color hides dirt well and complements container gardens and pavement or stone walkways.

    Peachy Rose

    • Peachy rose is darker than pink and lighter than red. This muted color is feminine and contemporary and is suitable for a sparse deck as well as a porch with container gardens or patio furniture. The bright tone of peachy rose works especially well with cottages and summer homes.
