Room Ideas With Lime Green and Purple Paints

Lime green and purple make a bold color combination, particularly well suited for a living room, dining room or art studio because its liveliness will stimulate the appetite and the imagination. Whether you love sleek modern furniture paired with bright colors or you are aiming for a colorful retro look that will evoke Miami, Florida in the 1970s, lime green and purple paint will give your room a cheery tropical feel.
  1. Contrasting Trim

    • Paint the walls of the room one color -- either purple or lime green -- and paint the room trim with the other color. Trim can include molding, baseboards, window frames, door frames and fireplace mantels. Sticking with one color for the bulk of the area to be painted will help achieve a more unified look, which is particularly important when you are working with such bright colors. If you are leaning toward using a dark shade of purple, stick to using purple for the trim. Dark walls can make a room seem smaller and even gloomy.

    Accent Wall

    • Shades of purple include royal purple and pale lilac.

Paint the walls of the room all one color with the exception of a single wall -- the accent wall -- which should be painted with the other color. For example, if the room to be painted has tall ceilings and gets a lot of light, you could paint all but one wall in a deep eggplant purple, which would make the ceiling seem less distant while the light keeps it from seeming gloomy. Paint the accent wall lime green for a pop of color that will draw attention to whatever is near that wall. Accent walls are a way to showcase a one-of-a-kind architectural feature in the room or spotlight a cool piece of furniture or artwork.

    Polka Dots

    • Speckle the room with painted polka dots if you gravitate toward a playful style or if the room is intended for the use of a child. Purple and lime green polka dots could liven up white walls. Alternately, paint the walls one color -- say lime green -- and freckle the walls with purple polka dots. Painted polka dots can be tiny or hula-hoop size, uniform or scattered seemingly at random, depending upon whether you are aiming for a cute, tidy style or a playful and chaotic look.

    Mondrian Wall

    • Enhance a plain white room by painting the walls with black geometric lines and filling in some of the rectangular spaces with lime green and purple paint, paying homage to the Dutch painter Pieter Mondrian. Such a decorative approach would be well suited to an artist.
