Room Ideas for Teenage Girls

The Rocker Room

• For the teen girl who enjoys rocking out to her favorite music, create a musical theme. Identify artists the teen enjoys and take color hints from the musician's CD or music covers for designs and colors. Consider painting one wall with a mural of a favorite artist's cover art. Stencil large music notes, guitars, keyboards and microphones on the walls. Along with these images, write lyrics to the teens favorite songs. Copy the images and words from the wall onto plain bedding and curtains using fabric paints. Frame the inserts from CD covers and place on bedside tables or dressers. Cut rugs into the shape of music notes to finish out the look of the room.

Fashionista

• As some teen girls mature, they become interested in fashion. Clothes, make-up and hair become front and center of their daily lives. For this girl, a fashionista-style bedroom may be in order. Select her favorite colors for the bedding and curtains. Paint the walls white and use white, modern-styled furniture. Place clothes racks along one wall similar to clothes at a fashion show to display the teen's favorite clothing items. Hang accessories including scarves and jewelry on hooks along the walls. If room permits, build a small wooden runway in the room and line a wall with mirrors. A lighted mirror over a sit-down vanity is a finishing touch.

Monochromatic

• For the teen girl who embraces her changing world, consider a monochromatic theme for a room. Black and white embodies a classic and clean look. Paint white walls and use white tiles on the floor. Choose black and white bedding either in a mixed print or in a mix and match set including a black comforter or bedspread and white pillows and shams. Select monochromatic or pencil art for the walls. The pictures should represent interests of the teen. Cut black rugs into abstract shapes for the floor.

The Flower Garden

• If the teenage girl in the home has a fetish for flowers or nature in general, a garden bedroom may be ideal. Select a shade of green for the walls and floors. Purchase dozens of the teen's favorite flowers in silk. Remove the bloom from the silk flowers and hot glue onto plain bedspreads and curtains. Use the same variety of silk buds to create a complete wall of flowers over the bed.
