How to Create a Stone Look With Concrete Stains

Natural stone is a finish found on many types of concrete. This finish can be applied to regular concrete along patios on the outside of the house. This finish can beautify the backyard of any home. There are various types of stone finishes, and one way to get a natural stone finish is to apply concrete stain. In only a few short steps you can have your concrete finished with a natural stone look.

  • Dust pan
  • Garden hose

Instructions

      Clean the concrete thoroughly with a broom. Brush off the entire area with a concrete brush. Push down firmly on the brush and get between any grooves or cracks in the concrete. Sweep all dust and other debris into a dust pan.

      Spray the entire surface with a garden hose for concrete that is outdoors. Run water over the surface of the concrete from top to bottom and side to side. Wipe down the concrete with a damp cloth for concrete that is indoors.

      Pour the desired color of the semi-transparent concrete stain into a plastic spray bottle. Hold the spray bottle 4 inches from the surface of the concrete and spray it over the entire concrete surface beginning at any corner.

      Work from side to side and down the entire concrete surface. Refill the spray bottle with the concrete stain when necessary. Let the stain dry overnight after it is covering all of the concrete surface. Inspect the area after it has dried and add another coat in the same manner if necessary.
