Homemade Zebra Print Borders

Animal prints are a quick way to add some spice to a room and can convey safari and tribal vibes. Zebra is the easiest animal print to create, with just two tones and flowing lines. The print doesn't have to be limited to black and white; you can get creative by incorporating other colors into your home's animal print accents. You can create borders with a variety of paint and crafting supplies, including stencil and vinyl options for the less-artistic homeowner.
  1. Freehand

    • Freehand zebra print borders using small accent paintbrushes. Best for detailing, these brushes create smooth thin lines for outlining the zebra stripes. Use larger brushes to fill in the stripe color. Mark off the bottom and ceiling edges of the print with tape to ensure clean lines along the top and bottom of the border.

    Stencil

    • Using the same taping methods for freehand ideas, apply a colorful base color to make the stencil color pop. Use brushes, rollers, stippling brushes and even sponges to apply the stenciling to a wall. Each method creates a unique texture in the zebra stripe.

    Decals

    • A new decorating trend, especially for kids' rooms, is applying wall decals. Similar to die-cut stickers, decals are made from a smooth vinyl with a nonabrasive adhesive, allowing for easy wall application and removal. Sheet vinyl can be bought at craft, hardware and home-goods stores, and the stripe shapes can be cut out using a utility knife. Apply decals to the tops of walls for a custom border.

    Chalk

    • Draw one-of-a-kind zebra print borders with chalk along the top of chalkboard-painted walls. The ultimate in creative freedom, chalk colors can be mixed and matched throughout the border, blended to create rainbow effects or doubled up to include multiple colors in each stripe. Erase and wash away mistakes easily, and change the colors in the zebra print pattern to adjust for any room decor changes.
